"Spirit
from the Past" by
Judi Wild
Over 100 hours
of painting & research went into the making of this detailed
painting. It is the fourth in a series of 7.
"I used antique
black & white photos dating back as far as 1901 for part of my
reference material".
This ornate interior pole has a carved
doorway at the base. Because there was a chief carved
at the top
of the pole signifying the importance of this house owner, I chose to
paint the face
of Tom Price (last Chief of Ninstints) in the
carved doorway. It was one of the first
to be reclaimed by the
earth because its base was compromised. There is only one
detailed
black & white photo
of this monumental pole
that we know of - taken in 1913.
